Observations From the Flyers Scrimmage

Voorhees – – The 3-on-3 scrimmage was fun to watch. I wasn’t watching to see which team won. I was looking for certain attributes with players and see who adjusted well. Here are some of those thoughts.

Defenseman:

Mark Friedman – I really liked what I saw. His shot was fast and his puck pursuit is really good. He made a slick block on a Myers shot. His active stick on defense is solid and his skating is always good. The wrist shot goal he got he’ll get again, and again.
David Bernhardt – He is a very creative passer. I loved his puckhandling. He’s made a jump from his last years’ performance in the World Junior Championships. He had a slick backhand goal. Here’s an exclusive interview with him:

Phillippe Myers – He created a lot of scoring chances with his passing. He scored a goal on the rush even in tight quarters. He was having fun out there.
Travis Sanheim – He was setting up his teammates with scoring chances. He was the best passer today. He had a very pretty slapper today that found the back of the net.
Simon Loof – His play along the wall was solid. He held on to the puck well and was sharp with his passes.

Forwards:

Noah Cates – He had great pursuit to the net. He told me that came easy in high school but knows it won’t in the USHL. He was tough in close. Had a slick drop pass.
Brendan Warren – He had some pretty goals. He sliced through the defense a few times. He beat Carter Hart far side, that was pretty.
Ivan Kosorenkov – He had the best goal I saw. He faked a pass to a teammate and ripped in a no-look wrist shot. He had jump. He handled the puck well in traffic. He should be back in September.
Morgan Frost – He was quick. He set up his teammates with cross-ice passes at times. He clicked with Sanheim. His hands were dangerous around the net. His playmaking was really on display on a few goals. Had a slick steal on defense too.
Oskar Lindblom – He held on to the puck in the corner. Nobody took it away from him. His sneaky fast shot in close was impressive. He looks like a pro out there.
German Rubstov – He’s strong. Strong on the forecheck. He beat Aube-Kubel in the corner in a nice puck battle. He is hockey strong.
Nicolas Aube-Kubel – Had a nice goal off a pro slapshot. He scored twice in the second game. This was a strong day for him.
Isaac Ratcliffe – He had good moves in traffic. He had some nice shots on Carter Hart but he was pretty locked in.

This wasn’t a day to judge goalies.
