Geno Smith and Carson Wentz Will Tank the Jets Footballology by Russ_Cohen - March 11, 2026March 11, 20260 Share on Facebook Share Share on TwitterTweet Share on Pinterest Share Share on LinkedIn Share Send email Mail Print Print If the New York Jets aren’t going to draft Ty Simpson, and they are going to “hope” they can get Arch Manning. Hiring the quarterback tandem of Geno Smith and Carson Wentz might do the trick. We all know Wentz is coming. I want the Jets to get better. I don’t think this was the way, and now I think, the same way I did when they signed Justin Fields, this will keep them in the running for a top quarterback in the 2027 NFL Draft. The Jets loaded up on defense, and now they’ll have to fortify the offensive line in the draft, so this is lining up. If you ask the Jets to do something like tanking, they usually do the opposite. Either this is the best low-key tank in NFL history, or the Jets will fail organically. I’ll let you decide. The Jets traded a draft slot to the Raiders for a quarterback who has had his “decision-making” questioned, and his 17 interceptions can back that up. The Jets made sure they got him. They could have waited for his release and “chanced” it without losing a draft slot, but the Jets hemorrhage draft picks and failed picks every few seasons, so this is still something I’m used to seeing. I will be anxious to see the Jets’ new defense and see if that’s enough to save Aaron Glenn’s job after a brutal 2025 season. One of the worst I’ve witnessed as a long-time fan. Now Glenn will perform his “magic” by calling the defense. It’s hard to throw away a season as an organization, and the NFL has too much money to spend, so GMs like Darren Mougey spend away on short-term deals and sell the fan base on how much better their team is. I think the defense is better, and I still think their offense will be among the worst in the league, and they still don’t have a kicker. How can I get excited about that? Keep it going. Let’s see what another 3-4 win season looks like. It’s hard to think anything else will happen.
