The Two Players the New York Jets Must Target in the 2026 NFL Draft Footballology by Russ_Cohen - April 10, 2026April 10, 20260 Share on Facebook Share Share on TwitterTweet Share on Pinterest Share Share on LinkedIn Share Send email Mail Print Print I am a firm believer if you like a player, you make sure you draft him. No matter the spot, if you can trade down to do it, fine, but make sure you get him. I said that about Jaxson Dart. The Jets got outmaneuvered by the New York Giants (if the Jets even wanted him). I wanted Fernando Mendoza, but we all know that’s not possible. So here is my new list. Davison Igbinosun should be the New York Jets’ first pick off the board. If they took him second, I would be happy. If they can trade down and get him and get more assets, even better. He is a 6-2 corner out of Ohio State, and he’s the one with size and physicality. He talks about making plays at the “top of the route,” and the Jets lack that, desperately. He’s fast, strong, and he has great hands. The Jets lack players who can make a pick or pick up a fumble. He is the one. He’s the one who stands taller than the others. Sorry, I couldn’t resist. I like Ty Simpson. I like his scrambling ability, and I like his brain. I think the extra time it took for him to become the Alabama starter was good for him. I don’t think he will throw a lot of interceptions, and I don’t think he will throw a lot of deep touchdowns through the air, and that’s ok. Again, if you take him at 16, great. I think the Jets can’t rely on next year’s draft for a quarterback. They will lose another year of mediocrity chasing something they may not be able to achieve, and that’s not a good plan. Take Simpson and see what you have in him. I know the lure of Arch Manning is there, but the Jets will never get the first overall pick. This year proved that.
