Mets are Seventh Worst Team in Baseball

There are no metrics on earth that show that the New York Mets will come out of this season-long malaise. General manager David Stearns keeps doubling and tripling down on his assertion that this team is better. But it isn’t.

He did improve their fielding, but the team continues to get outhustled, and teams steal on them when pitchers forget to hold runners on, and so on. Where are those metrics? Knowing when to make the right throw to the right base metrics?

The Mets are hitting .228, ranked 25th in the league. At least they aren’t dead last! They are 25th in runs scored, too. We all knew they couldn’t replace the home runs they lost in the offseason but scoring runs is kind of important, and they are terrible at it.

MJ Melendez is 1-29 lately. How is he still on the team? And don’t tell me Jared Young is the answer. This shows the gap in the Mets’ farm system and the front office’s ineffectiveness in picking up or trading for better players. The Mets are going to coast this one into the final turn and say it was a disappointing year, but we got to play our prospects! They will pivot to that even though that wasn’t the message this offseason and deep into this season.

The Mets have 4 Top 100 ranked prospects, and the Dodgers have 5. How is that even possible? The Guardians have 7. So David Stearns will say it takes years to build the system, but right now he’s living off Billy Eppler’s prospects. For the most part, with some exceptions.

Cohen’s casino is running more than five months behind schedule, and the Mets are behind schedule. If Cohen doesn’t get Stearns some front office help, pronto, this team is going to struggle coming out of a potential lockout.

How does Carlos Mendoza still have a job? He’s had five ejections the past two plus years and none this year? None? That’s a bad sign, too. Apathy has set in.

I don’t have all the answers, but the Mets don’t either.
