My Final Flyers Dev Camp Report

I saw the scrimmage. I won’t be commenting on every goal. I am basically looking at what I saw the other day in camp, plus whatever a player has done to this point and then how that looked in the scrimmage.

Alex Ciernik – RW – I need to see him finish this season; I am aware of what happened last year. But, even at 5-on-5 in this game, he never got it going. Maybe he had one shot on goal. When there was more room, 3-on-3, he scored. I wasn’t surprised.

Jack Williams – C – He had 17 goals for Northeastern and he showed a great one-timer. I’m intrigued to see where that shot and good skating can take him.

Noah Powell – RW – He is strong (and will fill out some more), he has some stick skills, and if he can quicken his release on his shot, I think there’s a decent future here.

Jack Page – D – He showed some real two-step quickness at times and he’s 6’3”. He’s a camp invite, a local Westchester, PA kid going to BU.

Jett Luchanko – C – I saw some flashes where he did get to the net. He didn’t score but how he got there impressed me. He didn’t show off big-time offense but his speed and playing around the net was obvious.

Heikki Ruohonen – C – I knew the least about him as far as draft picks went, going into this. He has potential. He is a good thinker with a calmness on and off the ice that impressed me. He did score but his puck management was impressive.

Ryan MacPherson – C – The kid from the BCHL showed off some of his offensive skills. He scored on a rush goal with everyone on the blue line, we assume because there was a penalty but there’s something there with him.

Jack Berglund – C – He knows how to get the puck in the offensive zone and protect it. His puck management was good.

Hunter McDonald – D – Got a “poke in” goal that he laughed about. He was pushing around guys, and you can’t ignore that. I still think he needs a full season in the AHL, no matter if there are injuries or otherwise.

Denver Barkey – LW – He was the best passer in camp. I want to see more explosive skating. He will need that as he continues to go up the ladder.

Devin Kaplan – RW – I wanted to see him be more aggressive in the offensive zone and he wasn’t.

Oliver Bonk – He was on the wrong team but he had a good camp from what I saw and what I was told.

Alex Bump – LW – I saw him lose some puck battles and wanted to see a more offensive push from him. I need to see a better college season next year.

JR Avon, Spencer Gill, and Ethan Samson looked fine. Avon is under pressure to have a big year in Lehigh Valley. He didn’t do that last year.
