Lukas Sillinger Should Attract NHL Interest

Lukas Sillinger was in the Los Angeles Kings development camp in 2022. Now a graduate senior at Arizona University, he’s a different player and one that’s worthy of having an NHL club sign him to a contract after his season at ASU ends.

Now 24, he has eight goals and 28 assists in 36 games so far. That’s quite a season on a very good team including Cullen Potter who I previously highlighted. Sillinger has the school record for 48 points last season and he’s coming close to that again this season. The consistency is there. His 13 multi-point games stand out.

He currently wears the “A” and versatile forward who can be counted on for scoring. According to InStat, he’s hitting the net 59% of the time. That’s solid. Sillinger has a quick wrist shot that creates rebounds for his teammates.

He gets 2:31 power play time as well. His stick and puck control, skating, and passing on the power play are smooth. In a marquee win against the University of Denver, Sillinger took seven shots.

Sillinger has only taken six penalties this year and has drawn four. Considering he averages 18:03 of ice time, that shows excellent discipline.

His father is the former NHLer and well-traveled Mike Sillinger and his younger brother, Cole, plays on the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Sillinger gets 24% defensive zone starts, that’s good too. So he can play that all-around game. His skating is good. His hockey I.Q. is excellent and he can be a leader. I think there is bottom-six potential here but you don’t know that until you sign and put him in the AHL to see what you have.

He’s 5’10”, 170 pounds and capable. Some teams shy away from smaller players but you don’t notice it. ASU is ranked 12th and they could go far this season. Another year of playoff experience will help him down the road.

Let’s see what happens after the season.
