Marc-Andre Fleury in Net Would Have a Nostalgic Feel to the 2017 Stadium Series

Pittsburgh – – Marc-Andre Fleury didn’t play in the first Winter Classic in Buffalo. He was the Penguins #1 goalie but he was injured.  He did skate around and was quoted because of his importance to the team. Then at the last Winter Classic in Pittsburgh in 2011 Fleury got a loss. He was still one of the team’s emotional leaders and tonight’s game would have a great feel if he were between the pipes. His time in Pittsburgh is seemingly running out with Matt Murray being the #1.

I’m not saying this would be his sendoff but it would be something close to that. “Flower” his a happy go lucky guy, a winning goalie, a championship goalie, the kind of goalie who represented his team and the city of Pittsburgh very well.

Fans love Murray but I think they really want to see Fleury in net. I think it would feel right. The Penguins are a virtual lock to make the playoffs so this two points is much bigger for the Flyers than Pittsburgh.

The weather is near perfect. The sun came out for a brief second but the ice is pristine even after some showers. There is no sun reflector on the ice.

The 68,000 or so fans that will be here by 8PM will be jacked.

More coverage to come.
