Mets Shopping List in Free Agency

Here is my plan for David Stearns. He is the front office. Well, the biggest part of it since there is still no general manager.

  1. I don’t believe that Pete Alonso wants to return to the New York Mets. So, I won’t be upset if he doesn’t return. I won’t blame the organization for this. And I don’t believe Juan Soto will sign with the Mets. I think he will use them to raise the price with the New York Yankees.
  1. Corbin Burnes should be their top target. If Stearns spends too much time on Soto, Burnes could sign somewhere else. Burnes would make life easier for Kodai Senga too. Cohen can pay him more than anyone else.
  1. Plan B for another top starter would be Lucas Giolito. He had a bad year so he would come cheaper, but he can pitch. I think he would be a great addition.
  1. Bring back Sean Manaea. He had a career year because he pitched differently. I would give him four years and give him a fifth-year player option to seal the deal.
  1. Try and sign Christian Walker. He has a power bat to do better than what JD Martinez did, and he and Mark Vientos can rotate 1B with DH.
  1. I’m hoping Brett Baty can play third base and Ronny Mauricio can play second base and possibly some outfield. Jeff McNeil must stay. He’s very valuable because he makes contact and can play so many positions well. Don’t move him.
  1. Jesse Winker should return. He wants to come back so this could be one of the last signings. Just ask him to hang around while other things take shape. He was a valuable left-handed bat with a good glove in the outfield.
  1. Get three bullpen arms. I’ll have to do more research on this.
  1. Buy out Phil Maton for the $250k. He’s not worth $7.75 million. No way.
  1. Act quickly. Don’t waste time on just one or two players and ignore the rest.
