Robert Saleh is a great defensive coordinator. He’s not a good head coach. He’s passive-aggressive, he doesn’t rise to the occasion, in-game, by changing the call. We never hear about that. He’s a less successful Rex Ryan. Can Aaron Rodgers control him? Yes, and that’s probably why he’s staying.
After hearing about the recent article in the Athletic, it just added to what I already thought. I thought he ingratiated himself with Rodgers and as a result, with seven wins this season, saved his job. The Jets are still not a great functioning front office. There are issues there and you don’t have to dig that deep. Just today we saw that ASGM, Rex Hogan, and the team have “mutually” agreed to part ways. He ran the draft meetings. Why did he go? Did he take the fall for Joe Douglas and some of his bad drafting?
Rodgers is currently the franchise, but he can’t run a draft. Douglas needs help, a shark, they have an offensive line to build, something they haven’t had much luck with in the Douglas era. They need draft to field players. Mekhi Becton may end up staying if the Jets don’t do this right and they might overpay for him. It’s possible.
The Jets also need a wide receiver unless Rodgers talks Douglas into acquiring Davante Adams from the Raiders. I’m not in favor of this move but it can happen, and it will be written about.
Jets punter Tom Morstead needs a contract. This guy had a great season and needs to be extended. They can’t overlook this if they want to be a competitive team. Let’s see if they make him a priority.
I agree with Zach Gelb’s tweet. https://x.com/ZachGelb/status/1752737876482117817?s=20. Mike Vrabel would be a huge upgrade at head coach. He may get hired before I get a chance to post this. I like his style, I’ve interviewed him and thought he was very smart, I think he would be a breath of fresh air for the team and he could keep Rodgers under control. The Jets need a strong-willed head coach, not a yes man.
