Former Saleh Coach Thought He Should Have Been Fired Last Season

The world is a small place. And last season on a trip to Michigan, I was driving around. I saw a food sign and went in to get it. There was a man with a Jets hat on. We started to chat, and he knew Robert Saleh as a football player.

This man coached Saleh. He’d been to New York, saw a Jets game, saw them get clobbered, and told me that Saleh should have lost his job during the year last season. The Jets didn’t do that because Aaron Rodgers got hurt and they figured the season was lost. I get it.

I think they waited too long with Saleh. He was clashing with Rodgers, and even though the Jets quarterback owns plenty of the blame for recent losses, the Jets coach didn’t have the stuff to be a head coach.

Now Jeff Ulbrich, the defensive coordinator gets the interim tag. That’s fine. Keep it within right now. But at some point, Rodgers will surely be very influential in picking the next head coach.

Joe Douglas could be the next to go. Don’t be shocked if that happens at season’s end, one way or the other. He hasn’t fixed the offensive line and that’s the biggest knock against him.

The Jets will now be sufficiently fired up to face the Buffalo Bills. Let’s see what happens.
