Some Takeaways From Team USA Camp

The top line could be Jimmy Snuggerud (Blues), on the right side and Cutter Gauthier (Flyers) in the middle with Rutger McGroarty (Winnipeg) on the first line. Gauthier took most of the draws. McGroarty, who can play center, took a few as well.

Late in a game, I would want Seamus Casey (Devils) on the ice. If you’re trying to hold a lead or keep it tied. If you’re behind, then Lane Hutson (Habs) is your guy. Both are good. Casey is almost as good as Hutson now on zone entries. He’s had quite a jump in development.

This team doesn’t have the biggest blueline so playing rugged defense can help. I think Eric Pohlkamp (Sharks) has looked faster, and he has a very active stick. Excellent one-timer and he is physically strong. He and Drew Fortescue (Rangers) looked good together. I would select them both.

Carey Terrance (Ducks) could be a nice fourth-line complement to Danny Nelson (Islanders) who would center that line. He is very strong on defense, and this could be their greasy, shutdown line. Not sure who the other player would be.

Gabe Perreault (Rangers) looks great on zone entries and that first pass or shot. After that, is where his skating still can be a bit of an issue on the bigger ice. If he stays in the middle, he’ll have a good tournament.
