The Jets haven’t played anybody in preseason and on September 9th, on Monday Night Football, they’ll play the San Francisco 49ers who are a well-oiled machine. The Jets are a four-point underdog with good reason.
The Jets career-record on Monday Night Football is 24-36 all-time. Sure, Aaron Rodgers changes that but only if he’s in the game for over a quarter. I presume he’ll be in there but keeping everyone from getting injured will hurt them in this game.
The 49ers have it all and they’re deeper than the Jets. They just are. I’m not saying Jets fans, like me, shouldn’t cheer for their team. What I’m saying is the coach, GM, and owner, made a bad decision here and it might show up on the field.
If the Jets want to make the playoffs, they can’t give away any games. Experts believe the Jets will keep it close. Will this be a moral victory then? I guess so.
If the Kansas City Chiefs played their top players, this preseason then the Jets should have as well. Rodgers never got touched in the joint practices. Is that realistic? No way.
I think the Jets have a top-five defense, and a top 12-15 offense with a healthy Rodgers, where does their offensive line rate? Right now, it’s near the bottom until left tackle, Tyron Smith can show he’s healthy.
I foresee a game filled with Jets field goals, hurries, and a loss in Week 1. Sorry, I wish I could make the argument to pick them but there just isn’t any evidence. Just hope.
I am bullish on the Jets this season, but if they start slow it might be a battle to be a playoff team. I know that’s all they need, but there are always going to be games that sting you and you can’t plan on that.
Bring on the new season!
