Haason Reddick has reported to the New York Jets camp. His agency left him, and he lost a lot of money. He recouped some money and is hoping to get a new long-term deal with the Jets. What did he do wrong?
“It was a complex situation in Philadelphia. He asked for a trade and ended up in New York. One would think there would have been a discussion between Reddick and the Jets when he was expecting a new contract, said legendary agent, Leigh Steinberg. “That’s a trade that wouldn’t have been consummated unless an agreement were in place.
“The problem that Reddick had is the collective bargaining agreement is heavily stacked against a player with a contract who doesn’t report.”
So now what? How long will it take him to get in playing shape and was it worth it?
“I don’t assume he’s out of shape,” Steinberg stated. “Contemporary players are in shape all year round. That’s different from football shape. So, you’re really toned and fit and have great stamina, but the problem is he hasn’t been hit and your body isn’t acclimated to that.”
Let’s see how he plays. That will likely determine whether or not the Jets offer him a new contract for next season.
Rodgers said The Team Was Flat in Warmups?
No, they weren’t. I was in Pittsburgh, and I watched warmups. Breece Hall was truly energetic. It showed and he had a great game.
Rodgers was throwing passes to one and all and there wasn’t one drop that I saw. They were doing everything a team was supposed to do so this is a cop out.
Focusing on the Garrett Wilson bungled play is the wrong take. That didn’t lose the game. What lost the game was when Rodgers tried to force a pass that was picked off before the half, and then the Steelers scored and cut the lead to 15-13. THAT changed the energy. All the Jets had to do was drive the ball down the field and not f-up the drive and they were safe. And they were getting the ball at halftime.
I spoke to a lot of fans who were unhappy that Russell Wilson played. First, they booed him, and for a while that stadium was quiet. That’s hard to do and it happened, and Rodgers failed to take advantage of that. He didn’t read the room.
The defense and overall lack of a pass rush were also to blame. Regarding leadership, Rodgers is supposed to provide that, and he failed to do so.
In the end, Rodgers chose this team and the players he sought out. If he fails, he has to shoulder a fair amount of the blame, and it seems like he’s not willing to do that.
